TH Train Issue Public Meeting

Another last minute notice from the Office of the Mayor…

On a day when traffic downtown was halted for about 15 minutes near 1 p.m. by a sometimes-stopped train, local officials announced the first public information meeting for a plan to reduce the effects of rail traffic in Terre Haute.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. today (TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 2011) at the Girl Scout Council Office building on the south side of Fairbanks Park. One goal of the meeting is to receive public input on how to deal with the city’s railroad traffic.

Bennett is chairman of the steering committee for the Terre Haute Urbanized Area Railroad Corridor Study.

Other members of the committee include Vigo County Commissioner Judy Anderson; Chuck Ennis, city engineer; Jerry Netherlain, Vigo County engineer; and Ron Hinsenkamp, chief transportation planner for the Metropolitan Planning Organization of the West Central Economic Development District.

Terre Haute and Vigo County officials have been working for several years to find ways to reduce rail traffic through the city. Tonight’s meeting will shed light on some findings and give the public a chance to add their suggestions, Bennett said.
